As part of our work on the School Swimming and Water Safety Charter, we had a clothes/pyjama session. The children were split into three groups and completed three different activities. All the activities were designed with falling into open water in mind. After a warm-up that involved ‘falling in’, once the child resurfaced they swam a length fully clothed.

One activity involved treading water, working on technique and removing items of clothing. Another replicated falling into water from a height and feeling disorientated, swimming through a hoop and resurfacing. The final activity worked on the H.E.L.P (heat escape lessening position) and Huddle position.

As well as learning some vital life skills, the pupils had enormous fun in the session.
