Denstone College Preparatory School | Providing Music in School
Denstone College Preparatory School has an excellent tradition of music in school. Our teaching staff includes talented musicians who are able to pass on their love of music and instruments and our pupils’ consistently high standards of achievement are a testament to their passion and dedication.
In Form 3 we begin teaching music in school; every child begins to learn the violin and most of pupils continue to learn at least one musical instrument during their time with us.
Many pupils play music in school through our wind band or strings group. The Chapel Choir leads worship and travels further afield to sing in services, concerts and musical festivals.
In recent years Denstone Prep musicians have performed at the Albert Hall, London, The Victoria Hall, Hanley, and the Symphony Hall, Birmingham. Pupils from the band, strings group and choir compete in Derby Arts Festival and we have won prizes for more than five years.
In addition to learning music in school, our pupils regularly qualify to become members of the prestigious National Children’s Choir of Great Britain which provides the opportunity to learn alongside top musicians as well as perform both nationally and internationally.
Denstone College Preparatory School is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music. Pupils are prepared for Associated Board Music Examinations and music scholarships are regularly won to senior schools by our 11 year olds.
