World Book Day 2020 takes place next week on Thursday 5th March, and we would like to invite you to join us in making this a special occasion for the children in our school. World Book Day celebrates the joy and value of books, especially to children, and aims to help children start their own reading journey by giving them a £1 World Book Day Book Token (this has been given to them by form tutors). The token can be exchanged for one of 12 special £1 World Book Day books or can be used to get a £1 discount off any book costing £2.99 or more. You can find out more about the books that are appropriate for your child by visiting the WBD website (www.worldbookday.com/books). The World Book Day book tokens are valid from Thursday 27th February – Sunday 29th March 2020.
To help make the day memorable, we have arranged for a local illustrative author, Joan Wallington, to come into school and join us for the day. Joan is an award-winning watercolour artist, illustrator and children’s author and she will be running short workshops with pupils in school throughout the day. Joan has written and illustrated ‘The Scruffy Dog Story’ and will be available to meet and chat with parents in the school entrance at the end of the school day where her book and a small collection of her stunning artwork will be available to view and purchase. We will also be launching a special competition during the school day that all pupils can enter and have the opportunity to win a signed copy of Joan’s book.
As part of this exciting day we would also like to invite all pupils to come to school dressed as a character from a book. The whole day will be themed around books and, in addition to any year group activities, all children will have the opportunity to enjoy a special world book day themed lunch. We are sure the day will be memorable and we look forward to seeing which character your child will come dressed as!
