Dear Parents, It is with great sadness, I refer you to the attached statement from the Custos, regarding the closure of our Smallwood Pre-School provision from September 2020. I would like to thank all the staff and parents for their support over the years. Yours faithfully, Tracey Davies – Deputy Head

Closure of Smallwood Pre-School

The Pre-School at DCPS was opened in order to provide excellent Early Years provision and wrap around childcare for children aged from 2 – 4 years.

The idea behind our Pre-School was to encourage parents to continue educating their children at DCPS through to Reception, Pre-Prep and on to the Main Prep.  A seamless transfer for both parents and children.

Sadly, the numbers of children in Pre-School have continuously declined over the past few years.  Most parents prefer to book just a few state funded hours for their child, with very few parents taking up full-time places. Last year we only had one child move on from our Pre-School into the Reception class and although this year we have a few more, it is not enough to warrant the main school business subsidising Pre-School places.

Sadly, after much in-depth consideration and a complete review of our running costs, as well as the impact to our school, we have made the difficult decision to close the Smallwood Pre-School at the end of the Trinity term.

We will, of course, look to help those families who are affected to find alternative provision.

This change will ensure that we now concentrate our resources on our Reception plus years and continue to maintain our high standards of Early Years education that we are renowned for.
