We are delighted to announce that, following an in-depth review of all areas of the school, we have decided to invest in DCPS and relocate it from Smallwood Manor to a new site at Denstone College. The Smallwood Manor site will close at the end of the 2020/2021 academic year and will be relocated to a new facility at the Denstone College site, to open in September 2021.

This decision is one which has been carefully considered over many years, with the education and wellbeing of our pupils remaining our focus at all times. Denstone College Preparatory School was previously based at Denstone College between the world wars and both governing boards are in agreement with the decision to move back. It will widen the opportunities available for our current and future Prep School students and allow them to experience the unrivalled academic and superb pastoral care offered at Denstone College.

The relocation aims to provide a seamless transition between Preparatory and Secondary education. Denstone College is known for its three school system that is tailored for different ages and the addition of the Prep School will add to this.

Moving to the Denstone College site will allow the prep students access to a wider curriculum and the experienced team of dedicated teaching staff. They will benefit from the first-class facilities at Denstone College including a larger swimming pool, Astro Turf pitches, state-of-the-art IT, and a large sports hall, featuring a climbing wall. We are also committed to ensuring that the family values and heritage of the current Preparatory School remain just as strong as it joins Denstone College as part of its stunning 100-acre home.

The current site at Smallwood Manor will close following the summer 2021 term. In the meantime, the Smallwood Manor site will open for all of its students to return in September for the final year.

All the proceeds from the sale of Smallwood Manor, after associated costs of closing down, will be invested into creating a safe space at Denstone College which works perfectly for primary aged pupils. Creating an environment which retains the nurturing atmosphere experienced at Smallwood Manor is a priority and having a separate secure playground and entrance will help us to achieve this. The plan for the development works is currently at approval stage and we will keep you updated throughout the year as plans are confirmed.

Although we will miss Smallwood Manor, we hope that you join us in celebrating the exciting future ahead for Denstone College Preparatory School and the fantastic opportunities that the relocation will provide its current and future students.
