The week started off on a positive note when the U11 boys travelled over to Twycross House to play an A and B football match. The A team played extremely well and a great performance with shape and composure on the ball saw them record a very hard earned victory by the odd goal. The B’s unfortunately came up against a decent team and despite their hard efforts, they were soundly beaten despite some great goalkeeping. The Hockey teams faired just as well against Twycross on Monday here and managed to win and draw their matches respectively. Again both schools attacked very well and at times the defences were very much under pressure due to the speed of the attacks.

Tuesday saw both U9 Rugby and Hockey against NULS, with some excellent performances all round. The boys played extremely well, scoring plenty of tries in their match, in which the focus was on developing a structure and understanding of the game. They showed this throughout tackling with enormous courage and commitment during a fun afternoon where both teams gained a huge amount from it. The girls showed the same level of commitment in their match and as the game progressed, using the space and letting the ball do the work was very much at the forefront of a focus for all. The girls ended up losing 1-0 in another closely played match. They can consider themselves a little unlucky as they did everything but score!

Wednesday saw the U11 Boys switch to Rugby, playing NULS and DGS throughout the afternoon. All three schools played some very good rugby, tackled very well and were disciplined and competitive when rucking. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon saw us gain a couple of wins but more importantly was the structure the team showed and the willingness to support the ball carrier.

The U11 Girls played Hockey against OVS and somehow didn’t managed to score in a goalless game, despite playing with confidence and showing the ability to move the ball quickly when attacking. The OVS keeper played fantastically well to keep out the attack and this performance showed the girls are just getting used to the speed of the game now that they are becoming more used to playing on a faster surface.

Well done to everyone this week.
