The U11 Boys travelled over to The Elms to participate in their first Hockey match and produced a creditable couple of performances against an also novice couple of teams experiencing their first matches. The narrower pitches meant much of the play went through the middle but to our boys’ credit, they tried to use what width there was available and kept the play flowing as much as possible. Stick tackles and foot fouls were kept to a minimum and although we lost both of the matches by a few goals, we gained a great deal throughout the afternoon, especially making sure they were ready to restart quickly after infringements took place. A really enjoyable afternoon was had by both schools.
The U9s Football against OVS was our first match on astro at home and it turned out to be a real spectacle of a game. Both sets of players took time to adjust to the speed of the game and the bounce of the ball but managed to play some decent football in parts during the first half. How it ended 0-0 at half time was unbelievable as our ‘keeper (Joules) kept everything out and played as well as I’ve seen a keeper play at this age in a long time. The second half saw us really score against the run of play when a well struck shot from Max J sneaked in through the OVS ‘keepers arms. Under pressure again, OVS broke away to equalise and were then awarded a penalty, which was put just wide to keep the scores level. We had chances again to score a second but with four minutes left, OVS scored what proved to be the winner from a corner that wasn’t cleared from our end. A very enjoyable and fraught game to both referee and spectate! Well done to everyone.
On Wednesday 15th Jan, the U11’s travelled to The Elms. All of the Year 6 girls went and played brilliantly. They were all fantastic and worked extremely hard on the courts. A special mention to Emily, who was a completely different person on the court, getting free beautifully and making some wonderful passes. Well done U11’s.
The U9’s have had 2 outings for netball so far this term. They travelled to Lichfield Cathedral on Friday 17th where they played their first ever netball match as a team. They all tried very hard on the court and a thoroughly enjoyable game. They also travelled to The Old Vicarage on Tuesday 21st where they took part in a triangular with them and Twycross. Again, the children all played very well and really enjoyed their afternoon. A special mention to Nuala who is displaying excellent potential in defence, well done Nuala.
