DCPS 7 – Old Vicarage School (OVS) 1  – Wednesday 21st September 2016

A superb victory for the DCPS U11/10 girl’s hockey team saw them defeat OVS by 7 goals to 1.  DCPS made their home debut and showed from the very start that they were determined to display their dominance.

Lola started in Centre Midfield and straight away drove the team forward, with Hannah working particularly hard and Pippa becoming better and better at reading the play, ensuring the ball rarely crossed into DCPS’s half of the pitch. When it did, Captain Imogen was always ready with an expertly timed challenge to ensure the DCPS goal was never troubled. Sophie H was outstanding at Right Back and with Amelia at Left Back seeing more and more of the ball, both girls grew in confidence, running up and down the wings, ensuring that the team always looked dangerous on attack. By half time DCPS had already taken a commanding lead.

The second half saw Abbey come on for DCPS and Lola switch sides to play for OVS to try and ensure a little balance between the two teams following DCPS’s first half dominance.  Lola helped OVS get the ball into DCPS’s defensive ‘D’ and scored the only goal for OVS in what became a one-sided affair. Izzy C, in goal for the first time, became more and more confident and by the end was able to move much more freely in the cumbersome goalkeeper kit.

Izzy W, playing up front for the first time, was excellent at moving around the attacking half, keeping OVS defenders on their toes. Her and Sophie H’s work helped set up a number of goals for the goal scorers with Lola scoring four goals, two from Sophie H and one from Amelia giving DCPS a seven goal haul over Lola’s one goal for OVS.  A fabulous all-round team performance.
