U11 Rugby

The Under 11’s played an away fixture against Derby Grammar. It was a pulsating game with twenty tries and we played some fantastic rugby. Unfortunately, we started slowly and missed a few tackles that resulted in the opposition scoring four early tries. Harry’s barnstorming try raised the whole team and Luke began to break the gain line regularly. Benny, Adam and Sammy continued to tackle extremely bravely. A fine break from scrum half James and an unstoppable run from Will B saw further tries. In the second half, Luke took the game by the scruff of the neck, tearing their defence to shreds to complete his hat-trick. William scored a wonderful team effort after crunching tackles from Fin, Emerson and Sammy. Our final try saw Ellen power through their defence, dummy and play a wonderful offload to Luke. This capped a memorable performance from Ellen that was a delight to see. Although we eventually lost 12-8, every player should feel very proud of their performance.

Wk 12 and 13 – Sports Roundup

The last few weeks have seen all of the age groups finish off their matches for the term with some really excellent performances. Both U11 and U10 rugby teams played over at Derby Grammar and these very competitive matches ended up with a narrow loss and a narrow victory respectively. These boys (and Ellen C) have played with real determination, and we had an U11 Tag game which saw us beaten by two tries against OVS. This match showed how well we’ve adapted to a change and all 12 players this term have been superb in their efforts.

The U11 girls hockey have played OVS and Grace Dieu in those weeks and results have been favourable, but more importantly, our performances have been really outstanding. The players have stepped up yet again in the last few weeks and their confidence and work ethic have shone through. I really feel the ethos they have is fantastic.

Our U9s finished off with some football and netball against OVS as the weather caused us a few rearrangement issues. The footballers had a mixed afternoon results-wise, but it was encouraging to see the work rate the boys showed for football was very much in keeping with what they showed for rugby. The girls had a similar experience with the netball and it was great to give them a low key match that wasn’t spoilt by cold conditions. Well done to all of you this term.
