Denstone College Pre-Prep | A Firm Foundation
Small class sizes in the Pre-Prep allow children to progress at their own pace, whilst still ensuring that each child receives the individual attention and careful guidance they need to allow them to reach their potential.
Our entire curriculum is designed to challenge and stimulate the imagination and provide a firm foundation for their ongoing education. Literacy and numeracy are taught each morning, providing a strong base on which to build their reading, spelling, writing and mathematical skills. We also work to provide ‘hooks’ to allow children to build up a net of general knowledge.
The Pre-Prep children are also encouraged to develop their independent learning skills through the wider curriculum. This encompasses lessons in a whole host of subjects from science, geography and history projects through to RE/PSHE, music, art, design and technology, ICT and the performing arts.
Children receive swimming lessons on a weekly basis and enjoy a rich PE programme taught predominantly by our sports education specialists. The children are taken out of school for educational visits and learn much from visiting speakers.
Our Pre-Prep pupils make full use of all the facilities of the main school such as the indoor pool, chapel, gym and sports fields. Playtime takes place in the large walled garden.
Independence and self-confidence are encouraged through a busy calendar of events such as concerts, chapel assemblies, nativity plays, Grandparents’ days and sports days.
Most of all, we provide a warm, supportive environment with dedicated and experienced staff where each child is valued and encouraged. This ensures that children feel happy, self-confident and open to learning and ultimately enjoy coming to school.
The school day takes place from 8.30am to 3.30pm, but pre and after-school care as well as Pre-Prep clubs can extend the day to 8.00am to 5.30pm.
