On Monday, Pre-Prep 2 became evacuees. Before they boarded the coach, they checked that they had their gas masks, labels, ration books,ID cards and song books. Fortunately everybody had everything so nobody was sent home! On arrival at Froghall Station, the children really entered World War 2 times. They tasted wartime food, met a real evacuee and soldier and used an old 1d coin and their ration books to go shopping.

Then it was time to board the train and attack their packed lunches. Unexpectedly, lunch time was interrupted by the blackout and an air raid siren!

On leaving the train, the children had to line up to be chosen by the local families – the farmer wanted a strong boy ((Stan) and the lady wanted a quiet girl (Tilly). The children then explored a wartime house with a ‘guzzunder’, found out what they should have packed in their suitcases and learned to recognise wartime planes.  The day ended with a return train journey playing with their new toys!

A very full day!

The children were excellent – they listened well, asked and answered questions and were fantastic at entering into every activity!
