U9A hockey v Grace Dieu – Friday 29th Sept

Grace Dieu 6 – DCPS 0

The U9A hockey team visited Grace Dieu Manor School and faced a very strong opposition. Grace Dieu were quick to the ball and scored 4 quick goals in the first half. Denstone Prep were much slower to get into the game but grew in confidence as the game progressed. Pleasingly as the game wore on Denstone Prep were more willing to work and win the ball back if they lost possession. In the second half, spurred on by half time oranges, and a tactical change to move to a back 3 of Captain Charlotte, Tilly M and Katie who worked exceptionally well together to limit Grace Dieu’s scoring opportunities and block the continual attacks into the D led to Grace Dieu only scoring twice more in the match. Imogen continued her excellent form with her willingness to make careful accurate tackles, along with Emily’s work-rate up front and Lydia’s excellent ability to let the ball come across her body before pushing it away to the sidelines gave Denstone hope that we are heading in the right direction and Denstone U9A’s will get their first win of the term under their belts very soon.

Girl of the Game: Tilly M for her strength in defence and score saving tackles.

U9B hockey v Grace Dieu

Grace Dieu 0 – DCPS 2

The U9B team got off to a wonderful start as Ellen and Evie scored early goals to give Denstone Prep an early lead away at Grace Dieu. Grace Dieu were caught napping as Ellen and Evie combined terrifically well and dribbled to the attacking D working well together to ensure the ball was always moving forwards and took their chances as they entered the D and had a shot towards goal that Grace Dieu were too slow to react to, Ellen getting the final touch on this occasion. Straight from the restart Denstone Prep were back on it again as Ellen and Evie again combined well this time Evie getting the final touch as they cheekily tried their luck again at goal with an excellent result for a second goal for Team Potters. DCPS were then committed as a team to ensure that their goal line was not breached as defenders Beatrice, Rosie and Captain Isabella were strong in their tackles to keep the ball out of their goal. Great efforts from Holly and Heidi up front who worked hard throughout ensured that the Under 9B’s won their first game together.

Girl of the Game: Evie for her effort, determination and skill.
