U10 hockey training at Denstone College – Monday 2nd Oct

The U10 girls travelled to Denstone College in preparation for their first U10 tournament which is to be played on Friday 6th October at The Elms on astro. In preparation for this, the girls travelled to have a practice session on Denstone’s astro pitch. Verity B and Cleo donned the goalkeeper kit with Cleo looking especially smart in the new stylish and safe goalkeeping kit. Whilst they had individual help in developing their skills at moving in the potentially cumbersome kit, the other girls were treated to a Mr Sherwani masterclass as he taught them some of his skills for astro hockey, namely, indian dribbling using the backstick and strong astro tackling to win the ball. The session finished with a 2-2 draw between the 2 teams with Caoimhe looking especially strong as a back and Darcie and Tilly performing very well in the centre of the pitch. Emily continued to develop her movement and this must continue to be a focus for the rest of the girls as they learn that movement off the ball is sometimes more important as movement with the ball to open up gaps and create space, something which Tilly D in particular was excellent at. We look forward to seeing how our girls cope on their first competitive fixture on the astro in due course.
