A fantastic start to the season saw a very narrow 1-0 loss for the combined under 11 and under 10 girls hockey teams away at Grace Dieu School.

Imogen, newly appointed Captain of Hockey, won the toss and elected to take the ball and straight away the girls were into a keenly competitive match. All girls worked fantastically well to make some wonderful passes with Captain Imogen commanding at the back winning every ball and powerfully clearing the danger away from the ‘D’.

Hannah, captain of the under 10’s took over brilliantly as a midfield maestro who was full of running and strong tackling despite the heat. The girls all having to adapt to a difficult surface and in the process of learning new positions showed outstanding teamwork and support for each other. Jessica was just as resilient at the back and along with Lexie, Georgina and Mia, the team showed just how strong the defence was. The defence combined well with the attackers and Lola and Amelia were particularly busy up front.  Faith, Abbey and Grace played well to keep the score low and had it not been for Sophie T in goal the score could have been more. However, Isobel W and Eloise making their debuts for the school team showed just how quickly they were able to fit into a new team and showed just how valuable they can be with Isobel W, like Imogen before her, making some great clearances out to the side.

The girls next lesson sees former Olympic bronze medallist and European champion and current England Masters international Lisa Prince leading training and it is hoped her input helps the forwards become more ruthless in front of goal as the final score against Grace Dieu is an unfair reflection of the effort and determination the girls showed throughout the match! A fantastic start to the term from all players. Well done!
