Mixed Age Hockey v St Bede’s

Two mixed age hockey teams played St Bede’s at home on Wednesday 18th September, one team led by U10’s team captain Camilla and the other led by U10’s vice-captain Alicia.

Camilla’s team dominated the first half, leaving defenders Su En and the captain with nothing much to do. Smallwood centre forward, Katy showed great stick skills and footwork, whilst Isabella B and Isabelle Ay made some great runs. Together with Rebecca they helped to take the home side into a commanding lead and Smallwood were already 8 – 0 up at half time.  Rebecca and Katy stepped down at the break, allowing reserves Saffron and Millie a turn, and positions were changed to give everybody a good crack at the whip. The second half proved a more even affair. Neither side managed to score but there were some close chances. Well done to all!

Alicia’s team also had a successful first half and by the break were 4 -2 up. Emily and Hema, who had played well, swapped places with reserves, McKenzie and Ellie. After the break, Smallwood gained their second wind. Zara made some penetrating runs down the centre, with Iona and Alicia in particular providing excellent support. McKenzie fought hard in defence and Isabelle An probably produced the moment of the match as she sped down the right out of defence, turning past defenders to score a fabulous goal, seconds before the final whistle. A promising performance by all!
