On Wednesday December 4th the U9 team travelled to The Elms for their final match of the season.

Captain Katy won the toss, sensibly electing for first push back, and Smallwood started strongly. The pitch was wide and short so certainly helped to create an end to end battle!  Ellie, Milli and Isabelle Ast. kept the defence water-tight while Su En, Katy and Zara harried and hassled their way forward. Isabelle Ash., at centre half, made some useful tackles clearing wide and by the end of the first quarter Smallwood were 3-0 up. The inexperience of the Elms on grass was obvious and it was a golden opportunity for the Smallwood team to swap positions. Over the next two quarters all the girls kept rotating positions and did extremely well to continually adapt to their changing roles. They certainly had to keep their thinking caps on. By the end of the third quarter the score was 4 – 2 to Smallwood. The final quarter was very exciting. The Elms managed to score two more and there was everything to play for. No one could quite hit the target though and so the spoils were shared in a fair result.

Well done to all!

The Elms 4 – 4 Smallwood
