What is it which makes that special atmosphere in a school? I suspect it is an intangible, almost unidentifiable thing; nevertheless, it is real. At Smallwood, there is indeed something ‘special’ which allows us to have fun together without the danger of this ever being anything except the ‘norm’. The Trinity term is always one of contrasts, especially for the older children. The initial weeks are about setting the right pace as we build towards the exams; the later weeks tend to give themselves to all the wonderful events like sports days, plays, concerts and Speech Day. Last week we have had the Easter trail, an Easter Egg hunt in Main Prep and ‘egg rolling’ in Pre-Prep. With all the fun, we have not forgotten the central importance of the Easter message. There can be few schools where such events build such a sense of being together as a family so effectively. It is almost magical.
