Activities Morning & Summer Fete
Saturday 9th May sees our Activities Open Morning and our Summer Fete in the afternoon. If you have not yet passed on your invitation please make every effort to do so. This is going to be an action packed day with a wide variety of activities planned for our visitors and some of our children in the morning, combined with a concert that will feature a number of our children as well. Visitors will tour the school and have the opportunity to have all of their questions answered before we turn our attention to the Fete that starts at midday.
The Fete will include all of the usual stalls, together with some that might surprise you! There will be plenty to eat and drink and it promises to be a really entertaining afternoon. Entry is free, so do please try to come along and bring friends and relatives as well!
Extending the School Day
A big thank you to everyone who responded to the possible change that we were considering in terms of extending the school day. After a great deal of deliberation we have decided to keep things as they are and will be looking to speed up the lunch sittings so that the children can enjoy a slightly longer break in the middle of the day. Those of you who attended last term’s parents’ meeting to discuss our future will be aware that we are currently looking to change our dining arrangements and we are looking at a number of options this term that we are hoping to initiate in the near future.
The Merging of the Denstone College and DCPS Governing Boards
Due diligence is now taking place, with a view to the two Boards combining in the very near future. Although the merger is entirely amicable there are still legal issues that need to be addressed and we will continue to update you as matters progress over the next few months.
No major decisions can be taken over our development until the Boards have merged, but this does not stop us making plans and weighing up the options available to us. I sent a brief table out with last week’s newsletter, identifying our wishlist that has been put together by staff and pupils. If you’ve not yet some so, please return it to me identifying your priorities. Once the merger is complete I would very much like to hold a workshop to help us determine the way forwards; more on this in due course.
Congratulations to Henry Mountford and Nick Hepburn who batted throughout the innings against Denstone College this week, sharing an unbroken partnership of 123, scored off just sixteen overs. We were due to play the College’s U12 B team, but a fixture mix up resulted in us playing their A team instead. So to bat so well against a side that was at least a year older than us speaks volumes about how well both boys batted. Henry’s 73 was a particularly impressive knock and bodes well for the rest of the term.
