Schools have shied away from competitive sport – I believe to the detriment of all concerned. Anyone holding an alternative opinion to mine should have been at the u9 rugby game against S. Anselm’s this last week. The rain was pouring and the temperature had dropped; it should have been a disaster. Instead, it was an utter delight and a triumph for all: the spirit on the field from both sides was superb, the effort and enjoyment obvious to all and the team spirit and earnestness exemplary. All parents could only marvel at what how the boys performed. When we talk about wanting to ‘enrich lives’, this is what we mean: challenges met, characters built, friendships strengthened and self-worth elevated – wonderful!
