Advent weeks at school are very exciting and busy, so it is lovely to end the term will a peaceful time. Our Christingle Celebration gives everyone a time to think of Jesus the light of the world and the many gifts that God has given us. This year we focused on stars. The children recited [...]
The Pre-Prep always look forward to Christmas lunch! They are very excited when they put on their hats and start to walk to the dining room. In fact, if you could harness it, the excitement could power the national grid! All the children love to see the decorated table and enjoy the traditional 'turkey and [...]
What a fun packed day we all had at the circus workshop on Friday. Mark taught us some great circus skills using flower sticks, diablos and feathers. We all had a try at balancing and spinning plates and Reception even had a go at walking on stilts! We all had lots of fun. Thank you Mark.
If there’s one thing Smallwoodians do well, it’s they ‘get it right.’ In the Carol Service on Thursday evening, the formality and beauty of the occasion were clearly understood by the children and this showed through in the way they read with conviction and sang with meaning. That sense of awe and majesty was superb. [...]
Form 3 had a lot of fun combining their history (Victorians) and drama (Using our Voices) topics by writing and producing Punch and Judy plays which they then performed to Reception. The younger children were a fabulous audience and laughed (and sang) in all the right places, making it an enjoyable experience for all involved - "that's the [...]
U11/10 Hockey v Yarlet The final match of the season was played at Yarlet on the 11th December. The Y6 members of the team were very excited about their very last hockey match for Smallwood and were determined to pull out all the stops in an effort to go out in glory! Lucky pants, lucky [...]
The Pre-Prep children excelled themselves today and acted the Nativity play 'A Very Special Day' superbly. The narrators read the story of King Winter trying to steal Christmas very clearly. We were all relieved when King Winter realised that Christmas is not just about presents! The snowflakes, gnomes, snowmen and Jack Frost were [...]
Imagine my surprise when I walked into the classroom to prepare for my next maths lesson, only to find a miniature Santa's sleigh on the desk. Well, that was nothing compared to the shock of turning around to discover 18 more of them - one on every pupil's desk! It turns out that the class [...]
Pre-Prep had a great trip to the theatre to watch 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'. Everyone enjoyed the pantomime and participated fully in the shouting, singing and dancing! They were all very well behaved and a pleasure to take out.
The U8 boys played against The Elms on Wednesday and played extremely well. There was some very positive running with the ball in the first ten minutes of the match. The support play from Smallwood improved as the match progressed. There was no real difference in the ability of the two teams, with tries being [...]
